Look up "orthostatic hypotension." Your blood pressure is dropping too much when you change position. Not much you can do about it except avoid abrupt changes of position -- if you are lying down, sit up slowly and wait a few seconds before standing. It's pretty common and usually considered harmless, but you could mention it the next time you see the doctor.

I forgot the scientific model answer, so I'll leave it in my words!

The reason for your headache/giddiness when you stood up is cause of the blood pressure difference.

When you sit down for a while... I think your "a while" is actually a long while, hence your blood pressure would not be as high as it would normally be. Standing up suddenly would require the blood pressure to increase quickly, however it takes a while (few seconds to a minute?)...

Oh ya, it could also be a lack of water, so do drink more water.

hope this helps. :D

I get the same feeling. It happened at my graduation when I was standing up. I felt like passing out and I thought I was dieing or something. I think it's from not getting enough sleep or not eating that much. It happened to me a lot last year. And it happens to me when I get sick. Nothing to worry about.
