I have a 10 gallon tropical fish tank. Very strange things have happened in there and I don't understand why. For one...my snail gone! Ok one night I fed my fish and I saw my snail crawling on the wall. The next morning his shell was in the gravel and NO SNAIL INSIDE! Fish don't eat snails do they? And also I have this one really wierd fish. He's some kind of large cat fish. Black and white stripes. He always sits on my treasure chest decoration. NEVER MOVES AT ALL! I always think hes dead so I get the net to get him out and he starts swiming and 5 secs later back on the chest. What is up with that? And the other day he was just gone! And the last mystery is I found one of my fish on my floor one morning as if he jumped out. The thing is though there's a top on my tank. Got any explanations? This is really starting to freak me out!

Ok...First mystery: yes some fish eat snails and if you have a catfish and the snail died, the catfish probably ate it then.

Second mystery: sounds like you might have a striped Raphael catfish, most catfish are nocturnal and thus only come out at night when the tank lights are off and you are in bed. He uses the chest as a cave/hiding spot during the day.

Third mystery: even with a lid sometimes fish can make there way out of the tank via the opening for the filter and/or the heater. Since you did not say what type of fish it was I can not say weather or not that particular type has a habit of jumping. Sorry for your loss. Good Luck!

Well think of a few things here. With the fish on the floor are there any opening at all in the back of the top glass if so that is how they are jumping out. If you have a cat the cat can bet doing some work of his/her own. As for the snail he is gone or he just got out of his shell and is in the gravel. You do have a strange tank. The fish that is on the chest can you add a picture link of what it looks like it dont have to be your fish.

My brother has a crab that is red and blue and it walks around the house all the time and gets back in when he wants to go back . My brother made a ramp for it to walk up and down from the tank so it dont fall and die. I also have had fish jump out of my tank a few times and I had a glass lid on my tanks as well but had small cut outs in the back it got out from.

Good luck with the crazy fish...it does kinda sound like a fun set up you have.....lol

Fish can jump, it probably jumped out near your filter and flopped its way over to where you found it. I think the catfish is a Striped Rafael Catfish, try searching online for it. The snail was probably eaten by the catfish or any loaches you have in the tank, and yes, many fish eat snails (assuming the snail was the little kind you get on plants, not a Mystery Snail)

For starters, many fish will eat snails. Some will suck them instantly out of their shells. So don't worry about that. I think they call that a zebra catfish very beutiful. Most catfish will stay on the and move a little bit like the plectamos. It usually stays still. It probaly enjoys that one spot like you or me like sleeping on a bed and not the floor. If not, is his fins clamped to his body? Does he have white dots or cloudy eyes? He might be sick but most likly not. Just a still fish. Some fish are expert jumpers and can find the tiniest crack to jump out. You might be able to revive it by putting it in another tank with water and wait like ten minutes. If it dosent live do whatever with it.

P.S. Some fish can get tightly wedged in places and you could probaly tear the place apart and can't find it. The next day there it is in the same spot. (my fish did that once! It was a black kuhli loach)

Do you have any sponges or coral in your tank? I know of someone that had a tropical tank with coral in and the coral ate the fish. All except one.....
