normal for the manual transmissions...the gears are tuned poorly in the scion transmissions....in xA, you will hit like 3000rpms at 60mph, which makes it sound loud...it isnt bad for the engine itself, but doesnt sound good...if you have an automatic trans, the sound is not as bad, so you could have a physical problem with the car

It looks like the teeth that grip the trani wheel might be wearing out, very rare for a 2 year old car, I strongly suggest having the dealer check it out, the trani has a minimum of a 5 year warranty or 100,000 miles which ever comes first I also recommend getting your trani fluid changed and your gaskets replaced if you drive very heavily in uphill situations.
