I'd agree with all of the above (well, The Lizard King, great as he was, doesn't belong here), but I'd also add some more modern names, including George Rochberg, Michael Nyman, Charles Ives, Percy Grainger, Samuel Barber, Philip Glass, Villa-Lobos, and Gavin Bryars.

I really enjoy Telemann's music. He was a contemporary of the great J.S. Bach, who thought well enough of Telemann to ask him to be godfather to his son, Carl Philip Emmanuel. During his lifetime, Telemann was more highly regarded as a composer than Bach. He was highly prolific, having composed over 100 concertos for various instruments, several hundred orchestral suites, dozens of pieces of chamber music, scores of cantatas--you name it, he wrote it, including opera.

Telemann's music is of a very high quality, and very "accessible." He seems to be a Baroque composer who is often under-rated. The quality of his music is at least as good as Vivaldi's, and comes close to that of Bach and Handel.

Henry Purcell (Dido and Aeneas)
Carl Orff (Carmina Burana)
Edvard Grieg (Peer Gynt)
Samuel Barber (Adagio for Strings)

These 4 composer's pieces have been remixed excellently in Trance music (btw, i like Trance too).
