We need a hard-core conservative to run.
That's what the GOP doesn't understand - the people will vote for someone who stands strong for conservative values - secure our country, stop government waste, lower taxes.
Who can disagree with these values?
Unfortunately, conservatives all too often get bogged down in the social issues (abortion, gay rights, etc.). In the grand scheme of things, this issues are secondary with solutions that lie in America's social culture, not government. Besides, these issues should be decided at the state level...

I am going to vote for the individual that is going to do the best job for our country. I agree with limited government and fiscal responsibility among other things. Taking responsibility for his or her own decisions and listening to a different view point are important. A willingness and desire to protect the people of this country and our borders is the most important.

Back to our roots! That is why I am registering as a Libertarian this year. Both the GOP and the Dems have strayed sooo far from their original ideals that neither are worth ****. When more people do this, abandon the big dogs and root for the little guy, maybe they will wake up. It will take time, but the glorious end will be worth it all!!

Republicans pander to social conservatives because otherwise those individuals might vote in their own best interests and vote Democratic. Republicans need that base because they need the votes.

I seriously doubt many politicians are reading this question. They are the ones "pandering."
Republicans who are sick of direction the party is going should speak out. Write to you elected officials!
And VOTE in the PRIMARIES!
That is the only way we can have a chance to get good choices come Novermber '08!

We need to return to our small government free market roots.
Whether we return to these roots depends on who wins the nominee. If we nominate someone who is concerned with social issues first and fiscal issues second, we will not return to these values. If we elect someone who cares about fiscal issues first and social issues second, we will return to our roots.

I hope conservatism reverses its course. Bush has taken it in too liberal of a direction. A good real conservative, or a middle road moderate conservative is what this country needs right now.

Republicans have forgotten about fiscal conservatism. Goldwater would be really ashamed of his party today.

I would like to see candidates who are middle road, and as for our candidates how come all democratic candidates are pandering to the far left?
