do the gas siphon pump and hoses that you buy at the store realy work?i want to pump out 2 gallons of gas from my 2000 ford wind star so i can put it in my riding mower and atv.every time i run out of gas i have to go to the gas station 20 miles away, i would like to just pump the gas out of my van and into my mower and atv.if i remove the gas filter i will just drain all the gas out of the van.i only need 2 gallons not 5 to 25 gallons of gas?what about putting a clear 5 foot hose in the gas tank to suck out the gas?will that work?on a 2000 ford wind star?

use a small diameter hose, slide it in about 4 feet, block the end, pull 2.5 feet back out, lower to your gas can, let go, that should be enough to siphon, use the small hose for 2 reasons
1- it will fill the gas can slow enough that you dont take too much.
2- it will fit past any metal coil intended to block hoses from being lowered into the tank.

go to the hardware store and get a siffin hose,it has a hand pump on it,works good.Or get a clear hose put it in the tank, and start sucking, kneel lower than the gas cap, when you see the gas coming down(you must move fast) out the other end in a jerry can and filler up,if you are not careful you will get a mouth full of gas! keep some mints close by.

This siphon works great.
Put the metal part in the tank and shake the hose.
When the metal ball starts rattling, it starts siphoning.
Simple to use. I have and use one.

Sorry guys...I know nothing about autos.
I thought this was in the motorcycle section.
Anyway, it's a great tool.

It should... you mean you never made a siphon when you were a kid?

Anyway, yeah, it will work, as long as the tank you are siphoning to is lower to the ground then the tank you are siphoning from.

Yes siphon pumps work.
Just make sure you get one rated for use with GASOLINE.

Because of the residual gasoline inside the pump and tuning you should be carefull how you store it between uses.
