It really isn't complex. Just look at the Republican Party and you'll see why so many of us always vote Democratic.
Yes, I would vote for a Democrat even in the unlikely event I thought the Republican candidate was actually as good. That's because voting Republican is voting to empower the far right clique that controls the party. Another seat for them strengthens them, even if the person holding it is OK.
In 2006, something close to a majority of those who voted against Lincoln Chafee in Rhode Island (the most liberal Republican in the Senate) actually approved of Chafee. But they voted against him because his opponent was equally good and would vote for a Democratic leader in the Senate. They were right. The few good Republicans still out there have no influence on their own party, so their only real function is to empower the far right that controls it.

For the same reason many people insist on voting Republican no matter who the candidate is -- they're too lazy to take a hard look at the candidates and decide which one would be the better leader. You also have the liberal and conservative propaganda to deal with. Both sides always accuse the other of causing all the problems we have in this country (or making them worse). It has reached a level of brainwashing in many cases. So many uninformed people believe the Republicans are the root of all evil, and there's an equally large number of people who believe the same thing about the Democrats. What people fail to realize is that they're both a bunch of crooks who only care about power or lining their own pockets. The only way this country will see real change is if ALL the people currently in power in D.C. are voted out and replaced with independents who actually give a darn about moving this country in the right direction.

A majority of the Republicans in Congress and inside the Bush Administration, will not grow a set and stand up to Bush on the issues that are at stake. Most will continue to stand behind Bush in whatever he does and with all the illegal actions Bush has taken against the things written in the Constitution that was supposed to be "by the people and for the people", Bush has continued to neglect the oath he took to uphold the Constitution when he went into office. There needs to be change on the war in Iraq, instead, Bush continues to send in more troops to die in a war that was illegal by Constitutional standards to start. The Republican government will not call him on his actions, therefore, I do not see a Republican getting into the office of President or Vice-President this next term. They do not have the balls or the ovaries to do it. It will take a very big person this next election time to handle this whole war thing. Another thing, there are so many investigations into the Bush Administration right now that there is really no more trust in these people. There was hardly any trust left in the government of today when he first got into office. He totally ruined it. This coming from a person who voted for him twice because I was decieved like alot of other people were at the time. I did not see him back then as I view him now. He has shown his true colors. Now I am really doing my history when it comes to voting for someone. Like alot of people say, "We don't want another 4 more years of this". Electing this next President will be a very big step for everyone, they must decide carefully on it.

For the same reason so many vote Republican, no matter who the candidate is.
People identify with the Party Line moreso than the candidates, or simply oppose the ideology of the other party.
I am a Political Conservative, but I do not simply vote Republican. It's necessary for me to know as much about the candidates as I can before making a vote.

It's not just the Democrats, the Republicans are stuck on their party just as tightly. I'm an Independent who has voted more Republican than Democrat in the past. But this time around I'm so disgusted with the Republicans that I may vote a straight Democratic ticket for the first time that I can ever remember.

thats something that annoys me. a lot of my friends parents {{my friends and I aren't at voting age yet, so we use our parents prospective}} will only vote for democrats because they are democrat, same with my friend republican parents. if I were allowed to vote, I wouldn't necessarily look at the party the candidate is from, but rather what they offer to America and its people. There are good and bad republicans, as well as democrats. Not all republicans are bad, but still some democrats won't vote for the good ones. Not all democrats are bad, but still some republicans won't vote for the good democrats. Its ashame that instead of people voting for someone who offers good things to America, they could end up voting for a horrible candidate with absolutely nothing to offer just because of their pride in their political party.

Because the Republicans have done an absolutely horrible job on nearly everything and too many of the current candidates fail to see that pushing along the same way Bush has is a very bad idea.

There's a lot of folks in both parties who will always vote a straight party line. I am a registered Republican, but I very seldom vote only for Republicans.
In fact, as of today, there are very, very few people running for any office at this point that I would vote for!! No matter which party supported them.

In the old days...the democratic party represented the working class families...they represented blacks, all unions including teachers iron workers and cab drivers, and the republicans represent only the rich...Something happened though, the dems turned into liberals and the republicans turned into neo cons...and there was no one to represent the average american...

I used to be one of those people. I was a one issue person. Labor unions. I voted straight democrat because my whole life I had been raised with an us vs. them mentality. Republicans were nazis. they wanted me to work for minimum wage. they wanted to steal the food off my plate. It wasn't until I grew up and got out in the world and saw how things worked in the world did i realize it was all bullcrap. Now I vote for the man and his ideas, not the letter behind his name.
