I planned a trip that happens to fall on the week of my period and I was wondering if I can just skip it and continue with the next pack of pills because I thought I heard somewhere that you can do that.

In a package of birth control pills there are usually 28 pills. Out of the 28 pills 7 of those are "sugar pills" which are just for you to keep count basically. If you don't take the sugar pills and start a new pack immediately using the regular pills you shouldn't have a period again until you finish those pills. You can either continue to take them for another month so that your cycle will be close to what it was before or stop them when you come back. Point is your period only comes when you stop taking the other 21 pills. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip.

Is it a monophasic or triphasic pill? I don't know much about tri-cyclen lo but with triphasic pills you aren't supposed to skip taking the non active pills at the end because it will alter your hormonal levels. You can only skip the non-active pills if you are on a monophasic pill.

The best thing to do would be to call your general practicioner or planned parenthood and ask them if you should stop taking the pills and start again after your period now, or if you can just continue taking them.

Sure, they have a pill named Seasonale now that allows you to not have a period for 3 months. Just expect a little spotting and make sure you allow you to have your period when you get back. It's the way your body naturally flushes itself out.

Most doctors wouldn't reccommend it, but it shouldn't hurt you if you don't do it too often.
