This question arises because of the difference in meaning of the word "corn" on opposite sides of the Pond. In the UK, corn is considered to be a cereal crop such as wheat. In the US, corn is considered to be maize - what we think of as sweetcorn. Cornflakes are actually flaked maize.

I hope that this disambiguates the situation for everyone.
