in the future if we get to EVOLVE into better beings, would we have better I.Q.'s or better E.Q.s?

To me, 'heart' is a symbol of right brain function (literally the heart doesn't do much more than pump blood - necessary but nothing to do with E.Q.)

For me 'intelligence' includes both halves of the brain but for most it really just means left brain function - logic, math, science, abstract thought.

For humans to be truly evolved we have to learn to use both halves of our brains equally. We have to blend knowledge with compassion, intellect with emotion.

From 'Hemispheres' by Neil Peart:

'The Universe divided
As the Heart and Mind collided
With our people left unguided
For so many troubled years
in a cloud of doubts and fears
Our world was torn asunder
Into hollow hemispheres...'

Its sad that many good people don't understand the clever and so many clever people are unkind to the good.

enki--I don't think that if we ever evolve--for the better of course--the capacity of the brain nor the size of the heart will matter. It would be more like developing "the missing piece." Another source from which humanity, civility, tolerance & all those missing things could be drawn. Or, on second thought, perhaps, all the meanness, hatred & anger would shrivel up like an old prune & be as unused, & useless as our appendix now is. (We lost our tails, didn't we???) As always, your question is thought provoking, & takes me on journeys. Thank you!

Edit: Just a curiousity. I wonder if being a top contributor & so very popular doesn't lead some people to respond with the piece that needs to shrivel & go away. Not that it really matters to anyone as evolved as you.

Both... if we really were to evolve into better beings both need to grow hand by hand... it is hard to live a happy life without a "heart" (emotional feelings)... in fact there wouldn't be anything called happiness if there weren't any emotional feelings lol...

We do need to have more brains... sometime we mistake lust for love... sometimes we do not know when to laugh or when to cry... and well.. you need to know how your emotions work... you need reason and logic for that.. and that only comes with the "brains"... for example if you know at least a little bit about love and the logic and reason around it you will not mistake lust for love that often...

I do believe also that humans beings have shown signs of evolution in areas like social interaction, ethics, and morals...

I believe this evolution is both from the biggers brains and bigger "hearts".. but let see.. how do we really make our hearts grow?... we need to use our logic and ethics about social interaction and emotions in order to know we most change our bad ways and become "good", more "humane"....

Hope that helps

Bigger Hearts.

I believe that as time passes, we generally will degrade, instead of going up the evolution line. At least this is what it looks like after some obvious observations of today's society...
However, if I were to imagine we were to become "highly evolved beings", we would have higher IQ's or current IQ's with betters ways to utilize them. AS the IQ generally rises, the EQ falls. Highly evolved beings, as thought of within our human dimension of understanding that is, are those that are capable of progressing their civilization despite all costs and obstacles. And in order to do that, the beings must be somewhat...heartless.

mmm, good one! ok, if we r planning to build more skyscrapers, make more cars and destroy the world then we're in the right way! bigger brains! though, this doesn't necessarily mean that wewil be smarter! maybe a bit more big-headed!- too much repelling! so, big hearts is what we need! love lifts us up where we belong!... but it's not just about a lyric from a song, it's what makes us be human. after all, even without a brain the human body still works right? even without doing anything else... but, that's sth anyway!

Since the heart is an organ that precipitates circulation, it would be useful for those bigger brains to have an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients, but highly evolved beings really need a more effective set of personal and professional ethics. Since we are only using one to three percent of the brains we've got, I'm not sure we even need the bigger brains. We just need to learn how to use the ones we've got I suppose.

The actual size of the brain, or the heart for that matter.
Is totally irrelevant, it's not the size that counts. It is what goes on in it, that really matters.

To interpret that accordingly, it wouldn't matter if we were to end up with brains the size of Whales, at one end of the scale. Hearts the size of a miniscule mouse.

Humanity, could still end up fighting over totally meaningless 'Religously based' Wars. All for the sake of a few Gallons of rare oil or a hundred odd square mile of totally worthless land.

Right now we have the ability to do things that we can not even dream of in our wildest dreams, our brains use only a 10Th of the power they are capable of using, and our hearts are big enough and stronger enough to expand even further. So as evolved beings, we need nothing more that to use what we have, and then express it in real time and real form.

Factually, the trend is toward bigger brains. A large heart is only needed if the organism is large.

Poetically, we don't use what brains we have, why would we need more. Our hearts we use too little, maybe because they are relatively small. Maybe with a larger heart, we would use it more often.
