I guess it would depend on how many dishes you wash and the method you use to wash them.... If you fill a basin and wash the dishes and then rinse them it would seem like less water would be used... However, if you just run the water and wash dishes it could be more... I like the dishwasher, I only run mine on a full cycle. I have a family of 4 so that's about every other day... .I believe that it uses less water than washing by hand....
