Are you sure it was stolen? Our local water company replaced ours with a new one with a transmitter that they can read remotely. It may look completely different than the old one with an analog display. I agree with the others - call the water company and ask.

Your water meter and the line supplying it, is owned by the company. If it was stolen, contact the water company. You shouldn`t have to pay to replace it. You actually are responsible only for the lines on your side of the meter. This is why they usually put the meter on the property line.(This is the first time in my life I have ever heard of meter being stolen......don`t know what they`d want it for)

Was it inside your home or in a meter pit? If outside, the water company MAY replace it free. If inside your house, it can get expensive. Probably under $100 but not cheap. This is assuming it is a 5/8" meter.

How can that be? Did they reconnect the pipe? You are getting (free) water, right? Anyway, contact the municipality that owns the meter and report it. They need to deal with it -- not your responsibliity, I am quite sure.

You will need the city or county to do that, the water meter doesn't belong to you
