I was raised from birth by my aunt and uncle in Prentiss, Mississippi and all of my records have their surname listed as my last name. I am having some difficulties now and need a corrected birth certificate with their names on it. Someone please help me with the information so that I may become legal?

If you want them to be listed as your birth parents then you have to go through the courts. More so an adoption has to be done. If you get a statement from either the state you live in saying your parents were never fit to raise you or a statement from your parents that they give up the right as your parents then the courts will grant this faster. If your birth mother named you the way it says then she ment for it to be that way. I gave my son my good friends fathers full name that includes the last name. I was able to give my son what ever name I wanted for a last name in the state he was born in. So good luck with all this and trust me if your name on your birth records say one name you are legal by that name tell you get it changed through the courts no matter what age you are. SO to change the parents listed its an adoption if its just your name then you have to file name change papers.

I recently went through the same ordeal. After all these years, my last name on my original certificate did not appear but another last name. So here is what I did to get it correct.
I went to lega services because my case was for filiation, my father never wanted his last name on me. My last name is on all school records and other documents except the birth certificate.
So the lawyer saw all the evidence that I had with proof of the last name I am using now. Then with a motion from the judge, she wrote to Albany, New York aquired a change for the certificate. This is because a lawyer has to certify that everything you say is true and sign and seal the document and send it herself to Albany Dept. of Vital Statistics. Then they did the changes that were stated in the legal document and I received my new birth certificate with the correct names. Even though my father never wanted me to use his last name and he never wanted me to call him dad, so anyway after all these years when I found out about my certificate I let the lawyer do the work. Legal services is free and they will help you on this. Better with a lawyer because you are doing it the legal way. Good Luck

your gonna have to change your name to what it legally is
