Look in the character map.

On a PC: Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

You should just be able to copy and paste it.

Use the Character Map.
Click on Start (bottom left hand corner of screen).
Then:
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
Character Map.
Cut and paste the character somewhere handy for future use.

And yes, use the font Symbol. You can find the square root there.
Alternatively, you can also go to MS Word. Go to Symbols and select square root.

Try ALT+v or CNTRL + v

If that doesn't work, copy this √ and paste it wherever you need it. (I use a Mac) if it works on a peecee let me know.
