OTTAWA – The Canadian Labour Congress wants the federal government to use its powers under the Investment Canada Act to review the hostile takeover bid of Alcan by US-based Alcoa.

In a letter to the Prime Minister today, the president of the Canadian Labour Congress, Ken Georgetti says the purpose of the act is to ensure that large foreign takeovers produce a “net benefit” for Canada.
