my computer is automatically updated to send fax's but when i try to send one i am having a lot of trouble. can any body help me, what do i need to do or buy (i have my old fax machine and i have plugged into the phone line connected to my computer but that doesn't work either) i think i am having a "senior moment" can you please help me. many thanks

1. Make sure the phone line works. Plug an analog phone into the cord that will go into the pc and see if you have dial tone. If not fix this.
2. Plug the phone into the fax modem's LINE port, not the one with the phone icon.
3. You say the fax is configured on your pc. Did you complete the configuration? If not redo this.
4. Open a simple word document. Click on File (at top), select print. For printer select FAX (sometimes it is not simply FAX but has the fax card maker and fax so watch carefully). If you do not see the FAX option, the fax is not configured properly on your pc. Redo this config and all should work.

How is your computer "automatically updated to send faxes"? Does it have a fax modem with appropriate software loaded? It is "chained" with the fax machine to the wall plug? Did you try switching the order? Can't you just print it out on a printer and fax it with the fax machine? (sometimes, the most "doh" solution is the one that works)
