Not very high.
I saw them open for Raven, on the "Kill 'em all for one" tour.
They haven't put out anything too exciting for several years, like since Enter Sandman.

I'm hoping for the best, I don't get why everybody bags on Load, Re-Load, and St. Anger. I say put them away for a few a while and then re-listen to them. Load and Re-Load does have some pretty solid stuff on there, and I'm not talking about what they put out as singles. as for St. Anger, watch Some Kind of Monster and I think you'll appreciate the album more. What you have to remember is what is going to come out musically and lyrically is what the band is going through at that moment in time. I think if they were not happy with any of their music, they wouldn't release it. As for the New album, well Rick Rubin keeps telling them to "Go Back" to the Master of Puppets days, and try and tap into those energies again, where they were only making the music for themselves,
and not for labels, or radio, or anybody else. I think if they are able to do that, we will all have a killer album on our hands.

I didn't hate "St. Anger" as much as everyone else, but I admit it was easily their weakest album. But I have every belief that this album will be much better. I read that same interview where Kirk said that the new album is fast and heavy like their first 5 albums. That they've tuned the guitars back to where they used to be, James is singing more like he used to, and Lars' snare drum is back to normal. I think with Rick Rubin as a producer, he'll kind of whip the band back into shape, as Bob Rock had become more like a friend instead of a producer. Now, I'm not expecting something as good as "Black Album" or "Master Of Puppets", but it should be something pretty cool!

I'll say it again:
I will Never understand the backlash against "St. Anger".
I'm a fan of their 80s work & thought the 'Black album" was a sellout, wimp-fest. Now even grandmothers around the whole freakin' world want to hug & sing "Nothing Else Matters" & "Unforgiven". Probably their Least "dangerous" album to date. That album made them "safe" enough for your mom & dad to like.
WTF?
*I* thought St. Anger was a return to hard hitting Metallica of old.
My theory: Most people who discovered them by or after the Black Album (1991) hated St. Anger.
So my expectations for the next one? Optimistic. If they continue this brash, heavy path AND, as Kirk supposedly said-..."the music is sounding very similar to the first 5 albums and that they have "really fast and heavy songs", then *I* say HALLELULIAH!!!

I love Metallica they have been my favorite band since I was a freshman in high school (I'm 19 now). Anyway, I'm not expecting too much. I got my hopes up for St.Anger only to be slapped in the face with a terrible album. Who knows maybe they will surprise us and shut all of the new age metal fans that say Metallica sucks up. Metallica paved the way for a lot of these new age metal bands, they need to show some respect.

even thought st. anger sucked, i never lost faith in them. they did what they wanted to do, and thats the sign of a strong band. its better than listening to megadeth or slayer...who make the same album over and over again due to fan pressure....
the solos are back...bob rock isnt playing bass...jason isnt either...which is pretty cool for me since i never liked jason in the first place
and have you heard the two new songs off of that album yet?
i love em...they're really good...

St Anger?
I gave up on them after the "Black Album."
I'm not holding my breath, but if Metallica can approach "Ride the Lightning" and "Garage Days" , etc. then I am all for it.

I'm very skeptical...especially after St. Anger. But I will give it a chance, at least.

KILL EM ALL
RIFDE LIGHTNING

BUT AFTER THAT THEY STARTED THERE DOWNWARD DECLINE.
NOW THE BLACK ALBUM WAS GOOD BUT IT DONT HOLD A FLAME TO THE FIRST 4.
