Just about any small block Chevy will fit the engine bay as this is the V8 that was used in this model.

You will also need to change the transmission and rear end as they will not be up to the task and will be a weak link.

Your checkbook is your only limit.

The Fast Burn 385 GM Part # 12499710 or the ZZ383 GM Part # 12498772 are a good place to start.

I checked the Summit Racing web site and the Fast Burn 385 will set you back about $6300 + shipping. The ZZ383 is about $5270 + shipping. The ZZ383 is more powerful but the Fast Burn 385 is a more complete engine.

I used Summit Racing as a reference only as there are many outlets for turn key small block Chevy's

Both a 305 and a 350 small block will fit in there, and you can get enough horse power out of either. Enough to be popping wheelies down the street. There is a lot you can do to both engines, it really depends on how much money you want to put into the engine it self, don't forget everything else that you have to change over.
Good question, but a little veg

502 Crate motor would be the ultimate powerhouse to stuff down in there. But if you are going affordable i would look for a small block 305 or 350 and do some head work, headers, exhaust, cams, all the fun bolt on goodies.
