Was the offer by Brown to Lord Ashdown of the Lib-Dems (and other rumours) a recognition that the political elite are beginning to fear the new parties emerging on the 'right' and 'left' of the stale institutions currently oppressing the people of the UK?

Northern Lad typical new Labour response, whatever you do don't think for yourselves accept what ever is put out by the media from the spin doctors.
If Brown really wanted to recruit from other parties he would have waited for Cambell's response not offered the job to Lord Ashdown before he knew (officially)

This is a Labour publicity stunt no more

Hark back to the old days when the masses were led by one class who decided what was best for everyone, especially their class. People are finally getting wise and realising that democracy means using your vote effectively and not in blind support of any one major party.

No, it's just about Brown trying to draw the Lib-Dems into working with Labour in advance of the next election. Since Labour are likely to only have a slender majority if they win at all, it makes sense for them to build an alliance with the Lib-Dems in advance. The 'emerging parties' of the left and right have next to zero influence and support.

If you can not see the reason why he approached Paddy Ashdown then don`t post.
