The music was great, the fashions were cool. It was a good time to be a teenager.
I especially liked 1982, 1983, and the first half of 1984.
The early 80's music was the best. Punk, New Wave and Heavy Metal were all hot then.
And then you had MTV, which actually used to play music videos. What a concept.

I love the 80's so much! I love the hair (I have big hair!), clothes ( I dress 80's everyday), music ( 98% of the music I listen to is 80's) and I love the tv shows and movies! I love everything about the 80's, there's nothing I hate about it. I don't know how anyone could hate anything about the 80's. I really wish I was born in 1971 insted of 1991 so I could've been a teen in the 80's. Or go back in time to the 80's.

Musically, I only really like the *early* 80s. The classic rockers, though losing much steam by then, were still around, but more importantly, the new wave brought some great new, groundbreaking sounds.
People like:
The B-52s
Squeeze
The Police
The Cars
Elvis Costello etc...
The 80s lost me after MTV started to really take hold. I'd say around the time 'Thriller' was huge. That's when Everything changed.
But anyway, seeing the 80s make a comeback is no shock. Happened to the 70s back in the 90s & there was a 50s revival in the 70s.
But to me, it's kinda funny seeing kids today say the 80s rocked! The mid 80s on was sheeite! Tons of forgettable pop acts (eg: Tiffany), the new rise of boybands (New Kids on the Block), then the late 80s w/ garbage like Milli Vanilli & hair metal.
Grunge was a breath of much needed fresh air....

The 80's revival has been around since the beginning of the 00's. It's only around the end of 2003 that the 80's revival became popular and went mainstrean big time with the helping of music bands such as franz ferdinand and the killers reviving the 'new wave' genre- (the current music scene) with their use of electronic sounds, heavy guitars and synthesizers etc... their image of wearing eye-liner and make-up also has something to do with it and now recently you can get make-up for guys called 'guy-liner'.
emo and scene kids where it all the time! (If you want to stand out of the crowd and grab all the attention that is)
everywhere you look everything is 80's inspired from music to fashion to even television programmes and films. As well as music and fashion, the 80's is being re-lived all over again in films and tv programmes like the sequels to Rocky, Die hard, a new teenage mutant ninja turtle movie ( with a sequel on it's way), and there is even going to be a new transformers movie coming out soon which looks ace as well as a dallas movie and an A-team movie lol - all which were big in the 80's.
From what I know the current or soon-to-be fashion trend is 80's inspired bright lit neon colours. Bright red, purple, white, black, yellow skinny jeans and even kate moss has coloured pastal neon skinny jeans in her colllection.
Leggins, leg warmers, skinny/straight slim fit jeans and high tops, jelly bracelets, polka dots, baggy tops over skinny trousers etc... are all trendy and this is a more 80's inspired look with a new modern design to it.
'New rave' is simply a mere look at the more inspired colourful 80's fashion and the music is based more on indie and electronic music with heavy guitars. It's basically bright 80's fashion with the make-up and accessories (such as the new romantics) and heavy electronic and guitar music with more of a heavy dance feel factor to it.
The 80's was a decade of innocence and happiness and life genuinly seemed more exciting, bright and fun. Even though I was born in the late 80's I feel i missed out on most of it as I was only a baby which was a shame :/
The 80's gave us classic bands such as Depeche mode, the smiths etc...soo many great bands to think of atm..
but the 80's was original and that's what made it what it is =]

the 80's are in only because nostalgia runs about one generation or in 20 year cycles. The seventies saw the re-emergence of fifties music and styles, the sixties were cool in the eighties and so on. You are probably young enough to pay attention to this now. Watch for the emergence of the nineties around 2012 or so and by the time we get to 2025 your generation will be longing for the good old days "back at the turn of the century"

I so do not agree that the 80s were crap! I personally am OBSESSED with 80s music because it really was "real music". You look now at some of the bands and all they do is whine. Back in the 80s, bands were innovative and even had cool names! Like Kajagoogoo and Kraftwerk.
Yea, the clothes were a little bright but you know, maybe people wanted attention.
And, what is with artists now like Rihanna taking parts of 80s hits and making them bad in their own songs! Rescue Me is the song for all you wanted to know.
The song that REALLY angers me is DHT's version of "Listen to Your Heart". Ugh, I hate techno covers of 80s hits! Please, Roxette over some crap like DHT!
Okay, I am done ranting. Hope this is enough. Add me if you want to chat about 80s.

i really like a lot of the movies such as Real Genius, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, the original Star Wars trilogy, etc. Some of the music I also like: Tears for Fears, Bryan Adams, etc. What I don't really like is the fashion from the 80s esp the glasses, which were huge.
