For the past week, I have been waking up with my hands very numb and I am not laying on them. Sometimes, it happens in the daytime too. Is this normal? What is happening?

No,numbness occurring in any part of the body without injury or underlying disease is not normal, ever. You could be impinging on a nerve, while you are sleeping, and not know you are doing it.Do you perform repetitive hand movements during the day, like typing or scanning groceries,or use your hands to grip and hold objects ? You could be developing a "carpal tunnel syndrome".There must be some residual swelling to that area, if it happens during the day.You could try using a wrist splint at night,to keep the wrists immobile, and see what happens,or see your MD for evaluation to be sure of the cause. Take care. SW RNP

Kinda normal, sometimes if you lay on you hands/arms or w/ your arms too bent the blood flow can't get to the hands so you wake up w/ numb hands. If it is also happening during the day you may have carpal tunnel syndrome which the bones in the hands sometimes push too much on nerves and decreased circulation also so numbness occurs. No pain no biggy

No it isn't normal, you need to get it checked out by a doctor. It sounds suspicious of carpel tunnel syndrome (where the nerve is compressed by tissue swelling in a narrow boney channel in the wrist causing the symptoms you describe).

several things could be happening, carpal tunnel comes to mind, tendonitis is possible, even peripheral neuropathy related to diabetes. To find out, see your doctor.

I know that can happen if you have poor circulation. It doesn't sound like anything life threatening, but if it does bother you, have your doctor check it out.
