I live in the OC, many men have stereotyped me for it.. I grew up in the country, I'm not materialistic or anything like that, I'm nice for the most part unless you disrespect me.. But why do men always seem to love to put me down when I make a valid point in a debate? I know I'm not stupid, but it makes me so angry!

They'll say, "Well, she's from the OC - she must be as dumb as a box of rocks.."

Hi, I'm from OC too. Being an older woman, I have another perspective on it I'd like to share with you. Only men who are extremely insecure will behave this way. And if they do, it is a clear sign to you that they are someone whose opinion you really don't have to worry about.

Keep being yourself and keep being a lady. I have found if I never lose my temper, always conduct myself with dignity and kindness and good humor, people can do and say whatever they want, but it's like water off a ducks back. I cannot control another's reaction to me. I can only control my own behavior.

Regards,

Hunh? Whachu talkin' 'bout, Bombastic?

Real men don't stereotype a woman as dumb because she's attractive, any more than they'd stereotype any less attractive woman as automatically being a nerd.

A real man, with confidence in himself, judges a woman for who she is, not what she looks like.

Now, let's turn this theme back at women: How do you respond to the old saying among women, "If a man is all alone in the woods, and there's no woman around the hear him, is he still wrong?"

Almost every woman I know responds to that question with, "YES!" Your opinion?

Is there a double standard here?

PS - Canadian Guy -- since when is California (the OC) a Republican State?????????

Having been blessed with beauty and a great mind is rare, so people may think that it isn't fair. They might be jealous and afraid that you are right, so they deny your aptitude.

You look absolutely stunning in your profile, but I would never suggest that you are less intelligent than me or anyone else. How could I know for sure? Even If I saw your SAT scores or you IQ results, it still isn't my place to judge you or bring you down.

Forget what others say about you. You have a lot going for you and you enjoy life, horses and partying! Isn't that a great start to a great future?

If you walk away from your negative critics, you will have more time to spend with those who appreciate you and love you!

Peace to you always

Usually, guys get laid if they show they are willing to maintain their dominance. They actually feel insecure, but they have to put on this act to get girls turned on. Otherwise they will be downgraded to "friend status." That's the theory. But, a lot of girls are also scoping for "beta males" and the dominance thing is no longer a factor in this case. It's more about being a provider and being reliable and safe. Guys usually want to be the alpha male, though, so they will try to act more dominant, and not let you feel like you have the upper hand in a logical argument.

Yes, beauty and intelligence is a formidable combination.

Many men become very frustrated by it because they want what they see but know you are too smart to let them have it.

I have met some very beautiful and intelligent women who dumb themselves down in order to catch the interest of some hot guy who they know would be intimidated otherwise. I quickly lose interest in such women.

Unfortunately, your observation is true for many men.

It's their loss. I wish there were more like you.

Bravo!

that is a problem on ALL walks of life still, with conservatives, and even in the so called liberal northeast, some men put women down just because you are a woman....well, in that case don't let it get to you, show them you are smarter by answering and making your points, and eventually the guy will have to understand that you are just as smart as he may be.

Just laugh and remember this: each one would sign an affidavit under oath stating that you're the smartest woman he's ever met if he thought it would give him even a 1% better chance of getting you into bed. So who's the smart one?

Don't listen to the people that are saying that. Attractive women ARE smart.

I have a friend that is drop dead gorgeous, very smart, party animal type that pulls in over a 100G's a year. It's just too bad that there aren't too many like her :(
Men do that to you because they fear having their a**es handed to them by a good looking woman.

Men are for the most part very shallow. Little sickens me more than a man who thinks that he is superior just because of his anatomy. I would guess that men put you down because they have already gone through the process of asking you out and in their mind you have refused them, when they put you down it is because of retaliation for something that would have happened but has not yet happened.
