My wife and I stayed in PANAMA CITY BEACH on our honeymoon 24 years ago,and next year we will go on our 2nd honeymoon(25th anniversary) in PANAMA CITY BEACH.
But if not your cup of tea(or Margarita) then I'd pick Sanibel Island.

I'm going to second Longboat Key -See if you can rent one of the cottages on the Gulf .
Both Lido Beach/ Armands Circle and Sarasota are a short distance away.
Fly into TPA and rent a car ,the drive is about 1.25 hrs using the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
You can also fly into Sarasota -Bradenton airport- SRQ- which is a lot closer to Longboat Key But my feeling is that the airfare will be a more expensive.
If you guys are of the party animal persuasion Siesta Key which is in the same area would be better choice.
Regardless of where in Florida you choose to go, get some form of travel insurance to protect you in the event of a hurricane-'Tis the season you know.

There are several in the sun coast area to think about. Siesta Key was just ranked as one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches. Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island also have great beaches and are a little quieter. All have incredible gulf coast sunsets.

The Gulf Coast is by far the prettiest part of Fla as far as the beaches are concerned. Destin Beach or Pensacola Beach would be my recomendation. The white sand beaches can not be beat. The East coast beaches don't even come close.

There is a beautiful private resort on Captiva Island near Fort Myers, it is called the South Seas Plantation. There are also many nice resorts on Sanibel Island.

I would say Sanibel Island, Long Boat Key, or Sarasota. I would definitely stay on the west coast. Much nicer beaches.

Unless you really like being eaten by a large selection of huge bugs(that seem to be immune to repellents)there are no good places on the west coast of Florida.

I have very close family in Naples & it's a beautiful place to visit. It's very scenic, clean, & well manicured. Check it out online & it will tell you about the city & what there is to do there while vacationing. :)
