Is it legal to work for another company while you are on an unpaid leave of absence from your company?

Not unless you have a contract that says you can't work for another company that is a competitor.

If you are on a medical leave of absence with a medical statement to not work you may be considered defrauding the company. If you are on personal leave, you probably can get away with it but some companies require you report outside employment (e.g., state and county governments are notorious for this). Also, if you are working for a competitor, your employer might have a problem with it.

of course it is but if u want to work for another company y dnt u quit ur first 1? but there are companies that have guidelines when u strt workin 4 them that u cant work for competing firms for a # of years and if thats the case it will come back to haunt u!!!

No it's not illegal, although if you lied to your first employer about why you wanted the leave, or if circumstances have changed and your need is no longer there, you could probably expect to get fired from your first job if they find out.

Unless you are under contract, you can work anywhere you want as long as it doesn't create a conflict of interest with your first employer.

Unless you have a non-compete clause, I can't see why not. A but tacky, but legal.

Of course its legal, unless you are on contract. The it is. But if your not on contract go for it.
