I'm looking at a corvette for 8k that had its 195hp 350 vette engine swaped for a rebuilt, more hp (at least 250) 327 engine. The corvette is in immaculate condition and I'm thinking about getting it however I'm afraid it'll depreciate value over time because of the engine. What do you guys think I should do?

I'm looking at a 1977 corvette for 8k that had its 195hp 350 vette engine swaped for a rebuilt, more hp (at least 250) 327 engine from the early 60's. The corvette is in immaculate condition and I'm thinking about getting it however I'm afraid it'll depreciate value over time because of the engine. What do you guys think I should do?

Are you considering the car as an inverstment, or because you like it and want to drive it? As an investment, it would be best to get the car with it's original engine. Of course, a '77 Vette is one of the least desirable, so its usefulness as an investment is dubious regardless. If you just want it for a fun car to play with, it really doesn't make a difference what engine is in it, though more power equals more fun.
If it was me, I would try to get the seller to give me the original engine with the car, just so I'd have it. You never know when some rabid Vette fan with more money than brains might show up and offer you 30 times what the car is worth, so long as it's original.
As another option, you could consider hi-po build on the 350. All other things being equal, the extra cubes will be worth something.
As an aside, I would try to score the car for something less than 8 grand. It's probably not worth more than 7G's or thereabouts. Mid-80's 4th gen cars in decent shape are going for around 8k and they're way better than a '77 in acceleration and handling.

As far as running the 327 against the 350, enjoy the way the 327 works and don't worry about depreciating the price. Why are you buying the car, for the enjoyment of it or to try and make a buck when you see it? Answer that question and you will know what to do yourself. Most cars will not get more money back if you sell them later as the time and money spent to upgrade or bring them back to original will not amount to the same as you will get when selling. Love your car for how it drives and feels, not how much it's worth. Good luck.

What year is the vette? Depending on the year, this could be a big deal. Was the 327 pulled out of another vette or just some other vehicle?

I think you will be fine, and if it is that big of a deal, you can always drop a 350 vette back in it anyways. Or you could dump a 427 in it for more power yet.

lets face, a 77 vette is never going to be a great high value collector car, if the 327 was installed properly and the car not butchered it shouldn't make a big diff on the value. the stock 350 in 77 was basically a monte carlo engine anyway so it's not like it was something special.

I don't think you should worry about the car depreciating in value. The engine has been swapped meaning it isn't all original anymore. However the car isn't going to depreciate any farther, unless the condition changes.

If I where you I would buy the car, drive the car, and most importantly love the car.

BTW- Drive your Corvette to work day is coming up on the 29th!

it is already depreciated because it is no longer original and should be priced accordingly!
