Hi everyone, I am going to my first audition this Saturday for a film, it's a non speaking 5minute part (Not an extra) but I've got to look pretty!! I have had to prepare two contempary pieces post 19th Century. Which I have to read out & show expression. I've wrote the essays & confident on how I am going to present them
Please can you give me any good tips on what to wear, how to address the directors & producers & basically any good advice to get me the part.

As for how you look...

Don't overdo the makeup. You want to look like you tried, but not like a tramp. A simple, natural look is best. Keep your away from your face to not hide it. Wear fitting - not tight - clothing. No jewelery, no excess accessories.

Walk in with shoulders square, head high. If you get to actually meet and talk to the director/producers give a firm hand shake and smile.

Keep eye contact with whoever you are auditioning with and the director when talking to him/her.

Tell them how great it is to be here today and when you leave thank them for their time and the chance to audition. After the audition, send a letter to the company that you auditioned with as a thank you. Include a picture so they know who you are and remember you.

If the film has callbacks (I'm thinking they will), wear the same outfit that you wore before. It's not going to look trashy or poor, it's a way for them to remember you.

Dress business casual. No jeans and ratty t-shirts, but not a ball gown. Good luck!

Absolutely don't overdo it. Just be comfortable, but neat! Don't wear loud patterns or colors. You want "you" to stand out, not your make up, your jewelry & your clothing. Wear your hair very simply and so that you can see your face, perhaps a simple headband, but not if you don't feel comfortable with that. A simple outfit like a skirt and top or jeans and a simple shirt. Nothing that takes away from you or what you are performing. If you're pouring your heart out and all they can see is the carebear on your t-shirt... not a good thing!

Aside from your acting ability, they are looking for someone they want to work with. Be nice & likeable from the second you get out of the car (or sooner if the audition is on a lot...). A nice smile will go a long way.

Good luck!!!!!!!

when you're doing your 'pieces' don't look at them, look over their heads or to the side of them. Totally 'be' the character you are portraying don't act it. Less is more on film. It is very still 'acting' not much facial expression. The eyes count, let what you are feeling show in the eyes, not by pulling your face for instance. Also, your eyeline should be in line ( on a level with the lens) with the camera.....not looking at it, if they film you. Do not look down especially at the end of your piece. The eyes must be seen. Try not to blink either.

It might sound simple but often simple is best. Believe in your self! Trust in yourself that you can do it. Honestly what is the worst that can happen? They say thank you but no. It hurts but you never know what might come next. Maybe by not getting this job you might be available for something even better. Never stop trying! Something to remember- Good Better Best Never Let It Rest "til Your Good is Better And Your Better is Best. Bye and good luck. Blue.
