My vote would be former Cavs player Mark Price, I think he shot something like 88-90% from the line...I think Price is one of the most underrated NBA players of all time. This coming from a Pistons fan, btw.

Statistically the list goes as follows.
1. Mark Price ~91%
2. Steve Nash ~91%
3. Rick Barry ~90%

But anyone that knows basketball would have to say that Rick Barry was the best free throw shooter in history. Sure, Price and Nash have a little higher averages, but Rick Barry shot more career free throws (3,000+) than Mark Price and Steve Nash COMBINED. That is the model of consistency. There was one season that Rick only missed 3 or 4 free throws. Oh and he shot GRANNY style.. which makes his FT% even more amazing.

Well there have been a number of amateurs who were free throw specialists who simply almost never missed. But if you mean in the NBA, Rick Barry was an out of this world shooter. Larry Bird as well. Price was good, but he didn't play as much as others and his career was cut kinda short before his shooting would have suffered as an older player.

Reggie Miller! 91% for his career. Not to mentioned he never choked when the game was on the line. Mark Price and Reggie Miller had some good battles for most 3-pointers in a season back in the early 90's. I forgot about him. But yeah, Reggis made them no matter what the situation was.

I go with Price and Larry Bird. Bird also shot 89% for his career and one season had a ridiculous streak of free throws made. Price was very underrated, you're right. Maybe the Steve Nash of the 80s, though I think Nash is a little better.

Currently - Steve Nash
In history - Rick Barry

Sure Mark Price had a little better career avg. than Barry (.904 vs. .900), but weren't the 'granny' shots Barry threw up more fun to watch?
Imagine Big Ben or Shaq trying that approach....

For me, a Filipino cager named Bogs Adornado is is the greatest free throw shooter. He made more than 60 consecutive free throws during his playing stint in PBA. His team then was CRISPA REDMANIZERS

i think the career leader in free throw percentage is calvin murphy, formerly of the houston rockets from the 70s and early 80s.
