My sweetie is German. She doesn't care for BRITISH accents. Some people just don't like that which is different. The "accent" that you hear from newspeople is what is called the "midwestern" accent, because it tends to be the most "neutral". Sometimes the accents here ARE nasal, but not everybody in the US has a trained speaking voice. I'm guessing neither do most Brits. As for me, I like British "accents" just fine, probably because I had some British ancestors (King Henry VIII, 2 signers of the Magna Carta, and...???). That and my parents listened to public radio when I was growing up which very often featured BBC broadcasts, so I was used to hearing it.

Some Americans criticize people who don't have their own accent too. The truth is that everybody in the World has their own accent, even in the same Country people have different accents depending on what part of the Country you live in.... so why should accents matter, the important thing is that people may be able to communicate and if they speak several languages it will allow them to communicate with even more people.

I often wonder how the American accent sounds to others. British rock singers and some British actors playing American parts are very good at using the American accent.

i'm british and you must be stereotyping us quite a bit. i don't know of anyone that doesn't like american accents in my area of england.
there are so many types of british accents and i'm guessing there are many types of american accents but the main accent we know of in england is from american tv sitcoms but i guess there are other american accents that sound cool.
in england there is one accent which is when you say larst and graaas instead of last and grass(does this make sense) and i say the last and grass because that is the northern accent. then the larst and graaars accent is divided into posh and londoners. it is very true that posh english people sound disgusting and you want to slap them and the london accent is just annoying and trying to be too cool.
to me overall the american accent sounds quite optimistic and this is not going to make sense-but i think that british accents sound square and american accents sound circular!
anyway don't get annoyed with all of us brits, some of us aren't snobby or whatever americans think of us.
I LOVE AMERICAN ACCENTS!!!
no offence but i find it so funny when americans try english accents!!!!!it's hilarious, but we must sound rubbush trying to do american accents.
