First off Dr. Bob, let me tell you that all your questions are intriguing! To answer this one, let me say that it depends on the desire. There are desirable things that are attainable and simply aren't attainable. And in the catagory of attainable desires, the degree on the desire measures proportional to the length one will go to attain it. Thus, if my degree in desire is very strong, then the more I will try to attain it. I guess the underlying question is what desires drive you to go to great lengths? Again great question, thanks for posting it

If you go further than you should, it's not desire anymore but obsession. Like love for instance, you can not overlove someone and still be right. Bottom line, it's an equilibrium...things must be balance.....if you can't get what you want, then it's not meant for you. ... move on.
