This has happened to me and I was worried as I had the idea I might have high blood pressure. My doctor told me that it was something to do with the fluid in the eye pulling the retina. Something like that anyway. I think they are commonly called flashers.

You do not say what age you are and this is quite important. The most common cause of this is a problem with blood pressure - either it is too low or too high. In any case it is worthwhile getting it checked out. The eye contains many tiny blood capillaries which are affected by changes in blood pressure. In addition there may be small "floaters" within the fluid of the eye which are disturbed by the changes in blood pressure. Many people have these floaters and they tend to be harmless but it is still worth getting yourself checked out by the Doc or an Optician. In older people visual disturbances for prolonged periods may be a sign of a clot which is restricting bloodflow to the part of the brain dealing with sight. Get it checked!!!

This is common for a lot of people, it may not be caused by lifting anything, but is caused by standing up quick from a crouched or reclined position.
It just takes a second for your blood to catch up with your speedy rise.
I would also get my blood pressure checked if I were you.
And what you are seeing is the classic term of "seeing stars" like when you receive a blow to the head.

Blood pressure. Just take it a bit more slowly, and allow your body to adjust to the strain
