Use a tampon. I remember when I got mine for the first time and had to adjust to it. It might seem scary at first, but you'll get used to it. It's not worth it to miss three, four, five days of practice like that, espiecally if you're really competitive like me. Try the slim ones. Good luck!

Lots of swimmers just take the time off. Luckily for us, being super athletic makes our periods lighter than other people. I recommend using a slim fit tampon if you're new to using them because they are smaller and more comfortable and come with an easy-to-use applicator. At practice it really doesn't matter if it leaks because your period will sort of stop when you get into the water but at meets make sure you change the tampon often, at least every 2 hours to make sure you don't get blood on your towel or in your suit. Rinse out your suits before the blood dries if you do end up with it on there and it shouldn't leave a stain. If you have other older girls on your team, ask them for advice or pay attention to what they do. Most girls will be happy to answer questions because they went through it too.

Wear tampons while swimming. You don't have to worry about them getting soaked then slipping out in the water like you would have to with a pad.

Use a tampon. Swimming will actually help alleviate cramps as well by increasing bloodflow to your muscles. Score!

Taking pills to delay your period causes a lot of health issues, and using tampons is not hygenic.Just tell your coach to excuse you from practice, you're a girl after all she/he will understand.
Hope I helped.

dont worry. it sort of "turns off" while you're in the water. i suggest changing into your bathing suit right before you get in and clean your suit in between events at swimmeets. and use dark towels!
