was married in maine, now live in virginia. {residents} would it be quicker to file in virginia or go back to maine and get it even though i'd have to be a resident there. i want out, so does she. no one wants to contest

If you both want it all you have to do is file the paper work with both signatures. No laywer needed. It doesn't matter the state if you are living in different states you just have to get a copy to both of the courts so it is legal

file where you're a resident of. If you go back to maine, you have to re-establish residency. (about 3 months for residency change.)

I am pretty sure you can get divorced in VA, just talk to a divorce lawyer and see what he says, but do it sooner than later cause if you have to plan a trip (you may have to stay in Maine a few days)
