I work at a hotel as a shuttle driver for a few months now, I have to pick up LOTS of heavy bags (luggage) and the other day, I picked so many up that my lower back really hurt and continues to hurt after a week of no work. I didn't go to doctor. My bastard manager keeps calling me to see when I can come back, because he says this time off thing is not working out for him.
What do I do? I need money, but can't lift those heavy bags and now my back hurts.
Thanks so much for your help.

Ask your employer to submit a Workman's Compensation claim on your behalf. If you were injured on the job, you should qualify for it. You will have to be evaluated by a physician, who will determine if your claim is valid. If it is, then you should be able to draw a portion of your pay until you are well enough to come back to work. Keep in mind that your employer may require you to come back to work on light duty - doing other work that is not as physically challenging.

Was there a specific injury incident, or has this been a gradual onset? It could be you simply aren't in good enough physical condition to do this particular job and need to find another line of work.

First of all you need to see a doctor then your doctor may refer you to a consultant or at least give you a certificate that should cover you for pay. However you say that you have only been there a few months, then I don't think you are entitled to pay..If you injured your back at work you need to let your doctor know this. Then you should be able to claim sickness benefit. You need to stop swearing and sort it out you have already had 1 week off ,if it's too bad to move call a doctor out.

Go to a doctor or ER. They will have forms for you to fill out that are for filing a Worker's Compensation Insurance claim. It is called Labor and Industry in my state. Once you have done that, you can receive benefits from that. Your employer has to pay them to cover you in case you are injured on the job. It is manditory. If you wait, you could be out any compensation. Then let your manager know that you have filed a claim and he will have to deal with them and not call you demanding your return. The WC and doctor will decide when you will return to work.
GET GOING on it!

You might be able to make a workers comp claim, if you hurt your back on the job. But you won't have any valid claim if you don't at least see a doctor.
