My number is causing me to be blocked from some sites - for no good reason that I can identify.

Thank-you.

Then just allow them through your firewall settings and check what cookies you allow.

Your IP address is assigned by your service provider when you log into the network. In theory you can get a different address every-time you connect.

Your IP address breaks down into two components, the network address and system address. Every computer on the network has the same network address, which is your domain address. Odds are any filter that is blocking you is blocking the entire domain, therefore changing the system portion of your address would be futile.

If you manually change the network portion of your address, your own service provider will in essence block you. It's because their routers won't know what to do with a domain address showing up in the wrong place. They will either drop it or it will cause their routers to go into a loop state and bring down the entire service provider network. Odds are they will drop it. Regardless the Internet routers won't know how to get a return packet back to you. The Internet routers, route on domain addresses, they don't care about system addresses. All they know is that this packet goes to the addressed domain. Once the packet arrives at the domain, the domain routers worry about the system portion of the address. The Internet routers will send the reply to "real" domain with the address you picked.

Domain addressing is controlled by the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force).

First, it's an IP address.

If yor ip address is indeed the problem, you can probably call your ISP and have them change it.

if you are on dialup, usually hanging up and dialing again fixes your problems since each time you log on it gives you a different address.

If you're at work, your admin may be restricting sites on a network-wide scale, you cannot do anything about this unless you're a 1337 (elite) hacker.

It might be a policy of your service provider blocking you but to change your ip address go to start>accesories>command prompt then type

ipconfig /release
press enter
ipconfig /renew
press enter

Three easy ways I can think of mate.
1) Manually input a proxy server address in you r browser settings and use the proxy
2) Install an anonymous browsing application.
3) Use a proxy site to browse the internet.

If you want to hide your IP address, use a proxy/cloaking service, like www.thecloak.com

ipconfig /renew will only update your ip address against your router - rebooting your router or cable modem may force the network to update it (although i find you need to leave it off overnight for NTL/Virgin to assign you a new IP).
