"Surge" is just another in a series of his failures in Iraq?

Or is Bush so out of touch with reality that he actually thinks an major increase in US troops deaths is winning the war in Iraq?

Even though it is patently obvious to the entire world that Bush has failed and was doomed to failure from the time he went into Iraq, he will never realize it. He will keep troops in Iraq for the remainder of his term. When the next administration finally brings them home, and Iraq continues in the civil war and chaos that Bush created, he will blame the new president for the failure.

Bush does not deal with the way the world is, he deals with the simplistic way he thinks it should be. His very narrow and solopistic view prevents him from heeding, or even listening to the advice of others. Likewise, a decade after he is out of office, when historians are unanimous in declaring him the worst U.S. president ever, he will continue believing that he was a great president.

It was the same personality disorder that allowed him to trump up a case to go into Iraq in the first place. He wanted Saddam, and he wanted an excuse. The people at the CIA and NSA could have (and did) tell him that Saddam was no threat, but that's not what he wanted to hear. He directed them to conclude that there was a huge arsenal of chemical weapons in Iraq, so they did.

It will take decades to recover from the damage Bush has done to our national reputation. Many thousands of American families will never recover from the loss of loved ones that he sent off to die. We simply have no idea how long it will take Iraq to recover, and of course there are the hundreds of thousands of Iraq families shattered by the death that Bush brought to their country.

That 48 hour period is not an indication in and of itself. One must look at the total picture. In so doing it appears that the war is not going well. We still have no definition of win. We don't know when we can finally say we have won and leave. It makes one wonder if there ever was or is a plan to end it. When will it end in Bush's mind? 10 years 20 years or is this going to wind up being history's second 100 years war?

Let us see what happens when the generals report in September and what the reaction of Congress is at that time.

Meanwhile write your reps in Washington and let them know how you feel about the war and what you want them to do about it.

Oh, for the blanking love of god!

We can all be grateful you weren't around during our other military conflicts. I do not mean to trivialize any death in war, but consider the cold, hard facts: In the American Civil War, there were 557,000 deaths, a staggering number considering how small the population was back then.

407,000 were killed in WWII.
33,000 in Korea.
58,000 in Vietnam

Did you know that 6,821 Americans were killed at Iwo Jima, and more than 20,000 were injured? The figures above don't reflect the huge numbers of people who were injured. In the Iraq conflict, we have a very low number of injuries as well as deaths compared to any other conflict.

If you had been around in WWII, you'd be screaming every day because in that bloody conflict the deaths were in the tens of thousands many months!

And you're talking about 14 people? Once again, I'm not making light of the loss of life, but the only point you are making is how FEW casualties we are sustaining in this conflict.

These brave people who have given their lives have helped to plant the seeds of democracy in a region that has always been volatile. Perhaps democracy is the civilizing force these people need in order to learn to live in peace with one another. To date, no two democracies have ever gone to war against one another. Think about it.

So what's your plan? You criticize him for whats happening over there, but you offer up no solutions. If you have it all figured out by all means share with the rest of us how we are to just pull out of Iraq without making it worse.
You shouldn't let your emotions control your thoughts, There are going to be deaths in war, we are going to have casualties its just a fact. War is NEVER a pleasant experience. But sometimes a necessary one. We are a free country today because there were Men who died to make it Free. We had a civil war and a lot of men died during that war as well. But would you change the outcome?? I'm sure there were people then who thought it was a HUGE mistake. And probably wanted it to just STOP, but they were probably making judgments out of pure emotions. It's not going to be easy, It's going to get worse before it gets better.
I just think people should sit back and try to put themselves in his shoes, and tell me Do you really think you would have done the right thing? Is there an actual right and wrong move for what he had to decide?

There will always be people around Bush who say that he is making the right choice. I call that the Bush Bubble.

Anyway, the Bush Bubble response to that is that it is expected that the death tolls will be on the rise since there is this "surge" going on, see... and with us surging like that there are more targets for the baddies. etc etc etc....

We live in a fast food Society everything has to be right now.Have you ever heard the old saying war is hell?Well we are at war this is no video game there is real blood and real death involved in war.The enemy has been at war with the U.S. for many years we are just getting started. Our surge is in full effect and we are kicking *** and taking names as we speak. So give your Country the Benefit of Doubt for once and sit back and wait for the Coke Machines to be sent to the middle east. Then you will know we have won.

Cons don't want to acknowledge deaths of our young americans, good thing most troops are cons. This war could be better for our future than we realize.

You're right. We should pull the troops out and instead send in all the people who are whining about the war to take care of the fighting.

I wonder how many troops in WWII died within any given 48 hours. Why does this surprise you people? It's a WAR!! YOU are the one who's out of touch with reality if you think a war is won without causalities.
