No, you can't keep anything in a plastic bowl and have it live. You can make a caterpillar house and keep a caterpillar until it pupates if you know the species and what it eats. However, even then you have to let it go when it turns into a butterfly or moth.
Other than that, I wouldn't keep anything in a plastic bowl. I even make my 3 year old let the fireflies go after he's caught them.

i'm a instructor, and that i've got saved a colony of mealworms, to diary their existence cycle. All you're able to do is flow to a fishing save and purchase some mealworm grubs, and positioned them right into a huge, semi-deep plastic field that has layers of newspaper, cornmeal, and a few apple peels, or potato products. they'll turn the "rubbish" into your guy or woman compost. we'd additionally positioned some stale bread, uncooked oatmeal, or crackers in there too. they're going to consume approximately something. the different element are extensive millipedes. they are relatively relaxing to observe. I made a splash terrerium from a "sterlite" field. you will could save a cover on them, except it rather is relatively tall. positioned some aquarium gravel on the backside, then a layer of soil, some ineffective leaves, then a layer of grass, or grass seed, or perhaps some style of floor cover like moss. as quickly as a week, throw in an apple middle, or some uncooked potato, and that they are going to consume it. We additionally had rolly-pollies in that one too. See the 2d link under for greater data. My youngsters only love me, they think of i'm like Mrs. Frizzell from that sketch... HAHAHAHAH

My children used to keep snails in large jars with holes in the lids. Every few days they were given fresh greens. The problem is, that after a while, they start to smell. So we used to set them free again.
