So....my last question was the same but for Jigga. Can't have a question about Jigga without also getting insight to his one time nemesis and one of the greatest poet/rappers of all time in NY. So....what are the 3 best albums from the Godson himself, Mr. Nasir. Here is how I rank them.

1. It Was Written
2. Illmatic
3. Stillmatic with Hip Hop is Dead running right next to it.

Most people will probalby think I'm NUTS for not chosing Illmatic first. Illmatic was incredible for it's time but It Was Written was track after track after track of just ridiculous FIRE. Live N**ga Rap, The Message, Street Dreams, Take It In Blood, The Firm's first hit....Affirmative Action. No denying this album is just sick.

Now the worst. For me Nastradamus would have to be my least favorite. I just didn't have enough of that roughness Nas usually spit. There were a few tracks that were Illmatic-like, but just overall a dissapointment. Godson was also kind of eehh. Now your thoughts...

You are completely nuts for not picking Illmatic first. Not only is it Nas's best album you could easily argue its one of the top 5 hip hop albums of all time. While i admit It Was Written has bangers (a lot of them) every single track on Illmatic is a CLASSIC. Not only does Nas spit the best lines of his career, the production is the best you'll see. DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, and Q tip all produce tracks on the album, and when you discuss Pete Rock and Premier your talking about 2 of the greatest producers of all time. On it was written you have most of the production by Trackmasters who are decidely not as good as the Illmatic producers. That being said, It Was Written is still a great album; clearly one of Nas's best. Its harder to decide between the rest of his albums but id give the title of third best to Stillmatic, because its sick and had a huge impact on reviving Nas's career after a "slump" of a few poor albums.

Can I just say that Yahoo Answers seems to be the only place where people agree that One Day It'll All Make Sense is Common's best album. I've been a hip hop head for years and always thought it's his best. But anytime this topic comes up be it online or with other heads I meet, everyone always says Like Water For Chocolate, and sometimes Resurrection. Anyways, good list because this has got a lot of my picks as well. I'm glad to see Ink is My Drink and Evolution Fight getting a mention on all these lists.

Your rankings are good but nothing comes up to Illmatic.

The rankings then are
1. Illmatic
2. Stillmatic
3. It was written

If you evaluate them just on their sound now or on their quality then Illmatic drops a little bit, but I remember when it first hit and the streets and the real heads were just going crazy about it. It really changed the world of hip hop. You are right that It was Written was hot, but you do have to evaluate albums not simply by their content but by their time. Illmatic is tops. But good question.

Naah! You are not nuts! You are actually right! I love It Was Written. That was the first Nas CD I owned and I have a little more bias to it but I have listened to Illmatic and well quite frankly, I don't think it is as good as It Was Written! But I will say that Hip Hop is Dead is third outright. Not if's or buts about it! On his other CD's, there are some great songs. Nas is.. is a great song. Great beat and some great flow!

1. Illmatic - Groundbreaking lyrically and musically.
2.Stillmatic - Resurection of the old School Nas'
3....Tie between alot of his other albums. The first two were so far above anything else, it's hard to pick a third.

I have lost my taste for Nas over the years. Although I still feel that Ether is one of the illest battle raps of all times. I will have to nominate It Was Written and Illmatic as far as best albums. That's it.

Illmatic was the best, he ripped it hard as hell with only 10 tracks. Most def a hip hop classic.
