To me, a friend is someone you can ask for a favor, and be sure that they will be asking you for favors often enough not to let it be a burden. Also, they feel OK about saying no when they have to.

A friend is someone who likes spending time with you, enjoys your company, and enhances any activity by sharing it with you.

A friend is someone you can trust with a secret, explain difficult things to, and will listen patiently while you get something off your chest. They know their time will come.

A friend is someone you will miss if you move away from your home, you will want to keep in touch with, and will be glad to hear from you even if you are calling or writing from the other side of the world.

I distinguish between "friend" and "acquaintance." I think I have maybe as many as half a dozen real friends that I know about, and another half dozen or so that I won't know they are my friend until something happens to demonstrate the fact to me.

I also distinguish a special category of Internet friend. I have a good many of them, and we are indeed close electronically. But we all remember (or I hope we do) that there are limits to friendship when you have never met face-to-face. The interesting thing is that when you do meet one of these Internet friends face-to-face, you can convert the relationship into a real friendship very, very quickly. My best friend was first my best Internet friend. Now I rather literally trust him with my life, even though we've only been in one another's physical presence about four times altogether. But then, he is a very special guy.

well a friend is someone who will always be there no matter how far ( in distance) you may be and some1 who cares without asking for anything in return

the qualities for a friend should include caring, sharing, honest( telling the truth even if it may hurt them ) , loving at all times, giving and most importantly communication because that will make the friendship thrive hope that answers you question

A friend.. is someone whos always there for you, no matter what. A friend is someone who tells you what looks good, and what doesnt. Someone who tells you things right out. Someone who sits there and listens to all your problems and helps you with every single one of them, someone who feels your pain no matter what the situation is. Do you get where im going with this.. a friend is just, a sister/ brother, that you dont live in the same house with (:
