I'm a Chinese guy, and I've a friend from France. We live in the same dorm. He has been showing affection to me sometimes (eg hugging, touching etc) and I was puzzled because we are not even very close/best friends. I know he's straight for sure cos he has a gf. I'm confused. We dun have much in common - he's athletic and carefree, I'm intellectual and melancholic. What does this really mean? We are both only 20 years old...I've known him for 1 1/2 years now but we still dunno each other well and have little in common.

He could just be a touchy feely kind of guy, or he could be gay or he could be bi sexual. Since you are just puzzled and not disgusted then he might not mean it in a sexual way. Or is the deal that you are attracted to him? None of it really matters if you want to do the right thing than leave him alone until he doesn't have a girlfriend.

I have noticed that Europeans from the romantic areas of Europe(France Spain Italy) are much more physical with their emotions(hugging, kissing, touching) etc. I wouldn't worry about, He is probably just being friendly. No one can ever have to many friends.

some people are just touchy types and I've heard the french are very much the touchy types. Ask him about it and when you understand you may find you like it but you need to understand.

you guys are still in that area where you are questioning your sexuality...as he may be...or maybe he wants a realtionship with a guy and the girlfriend is a cover...i take it you are bisexual or gay? anyway...opposites attract...like im a laid back normal guy and i really think punk rock chicks are hott (Brody from the distillers)...if you dont mind, then just see where it goes...but if you dont want this, you need to tell him to back off

Put out your feelers on this one. Perhaps he's had something going on in his life recently to have these things change his perceptions towards you. Ask him. COMMUNICATE! I know it's hard, but don't be a male, homophobic, machismo and just ask him what's up in his life lately.

he could be very aware that you are melancholic and may just be trying to be a friend and offer you emotional support. I'd just be adult about it and ask him what you want to know.

Just cuz he has a girlfriend doesnt mean anything. I know gay men who are or were married with children. I think either he wants to tap it, or your te gay one and secretly want your roomate, hoping his random hugs mean he wants you too.

are you ok with this. He probably just likes you or maby isn't so straight. If you don't want him doing this just tell him hands off. If you are gay/bi do it back
