No, there is no chemical for pools to do this.

However, there are chemicals that will react with a color change when exposed to urine, but the volumes needed to reach a level for a pool would be astronomical and extremely expensive. Not to mention I wouldn't swim in it and the health department would condemn the pool until it was removed.

No there is not a chemical that changes color when someone pees in a pool. It is an urban legend.
The pH of human pee is similar to that of a pool. If there was a chemical it would change color based on pH ( an indicator) so the pH's being similar a color change would happen automatically. That means the whole pool would be purple.

Also, by the nature of how we pee, there are always trace amounts of pee left once the person finishes. That would then be absorbed into the bathing suit. Jumping in the pool would then create all of those little "clouds".

A chemically balanced pool will be able to neutralize a certain level of pee. While it is gross, it won't be harmful.

It is not true... the reason being if it was based on ammonia in the water... it would turn color from the sweat that came off of our bodies so if you were hot and sweaty and jumped in the pool it would turn the water colors...

YES!! Its called Bromine...it turns the water purple when it react with acid and pee is acidic! It is mostly used in European pools. Bromine does the same thing as chlorine! By the way...I learned this in my NAtional Lifeguard course this March and before that I believed that this was only a Urban LEgend!

yes, there is an indicator that would react with urea which is excreted in high amounts in urine. however, the amount of chemical needed to have a high enough concentration would be exteremely high and also fatal to anyone that enters the pool. the pool would basically have to be filled with this indicator.
