I was actually wondering if Americans are ready to elect a transgendered individual to any office no matter what the political affiliation.

A gay candidate, I probably would vote for if his or her views lined up with mines. But transgendered? I don't know.....

There are so many psychological problems that come with being transgendered than I would, at least for the present hesitate to support someone transgendered. I don't anticipate that in my lifetime there will be much progress made in the acceptance of the transgendered and as long as it is so difficult, I think they would be better off working out their surgeries and hormonal changes out of the spotlight of political office. I don't worry as much about gays, there is a support system and long history, even if skewed that can sustain a gay person in knowing they aren't alone, but truly transgendered people aren't numerically that frequent and would have a harder time of it.

Yes, I would. I don't feel that a person's gender is any reflection of their ability to do the job. If this politician has a clear vision for America, views that closely reflect my own, and will serve ALL people equally then this Politician will get my vote regardless of whether he or she is Black or White, Gay or Straight, Male or Female, Etc.

I recall a transgendered politician in Florida, and I don't think she should have been fired. Are we ready for a tranny in a higher office, I really don't think so.

"City commissioners ended one of the most tumultuous weeks in Largo history Tuesday night by firing City Manager Steve Stanton as a result of his disclosure that he will have a sex-change operation."

It depends upon their political views, what they want to accomplish while in office and the opposition candidate.

I wouldn't because I know that a gay person probably would have different values than I on certain issues that I am totally against.
There would definitely be a policy conflict.

A person experiencing sexual confusion, sexual dysfunction, or perversion of any sort don't make for good political figures. Remember McGreevy, Foley, Bill Clinton?

Yeah, I said it.

ps. Any person who tells them (the sexual perverse) that they are ok because they are "born that way" are doing them MORE harm. It's just like telling the alcoholic that it is ok to drink in "moderation", when alcohol is killing them.

Yes.

And people giving thumbs down to people who say "Yes" like me, I pity you all, a person's gender should be their business and something they should be able to choose, there is nothing wrong with them.

As long as a person is highly qualified, then I will vote for that person.

No. I don't think we are even ready for a gay president yet. I know I'll get thumbs down for this, but I'm being honest.

There are already plenty of gays serving in Congress. I don't think I would vote for anyone one that is already that confused.
