My husband and I went through this and for 1 week he set his alarm for 6 am every day even the weekend. He was grouchy at first but now we enjoy spending our mornings together. Plus we go to bed together now too because we are tired around the same time, and let me say going to bed at the same time has it's advantages.

It takes time, but the secret is basically this: go to bed at the same time every night. Make sure you are getting around 8 hours of sleep. Get up at the same time every day. This includes weekends. That is the best way, for most people, to switch from being a night owl to an early worm.

Keep in mind that you are going to be altering a natural rhythm. People who are night owls are on a cycle that is longer than 24 hours. They are always trying to stretch the day out, hence staying up late and sleeping in. Morning persons are more likely to be on a less than 24 hour cycle. They're always trying to shorten the day. So all the suggestions made by others will be helpful, but it will take some time and effort on your part. Have you and your girlfriend considered meeting "half-way." If she would be willing to try and extend her days and you are willing to try and shorten yours, it will be easier than one of you trying to completely match the others.

Try going to bed earlier and gradually move your schedule back earlier. This may take some time. No caffeine in the afternoon, and no exercise, computer or TV right before bed. No TV or reading in bed, bed is for sleep or sex only. If you're not sleepy right away, get up and read something boring or listen to quiet music for a while till you're sleepy.

Good luck!
