We live in a very moldy house. It's had mold since I was young, around 12 or 13. It's been flooded twice, and there is this black/green stuff growing on the walls. I'd like to know if this is just rotting wood or mold. Here are some photos of it.

If it is mold, what kind and how dangerous is it? We have a five year old who has been living in that house since she was born. She is developmentally challenged and hyperactive, could this be due to all the mold?

Wow, you have black mold.

You need to have this removed and the walls replaced. Is this your home or are you renting it ?

That looks like mold, and I hope that is your basement! If that is the basement, you need to get rid of the mold, scrub down the walls with some bleach or product to kill mold and mildew. If there are windows in the basement, open those to ventilate while doing the work. Then get a dehumidifier, or if the basement if large, 2. Keep them running until the basement dries up, then let the run off the controls, it will turn on as needed. After the mold & mildew is killed, and the basement is dry, you could paint with a paint made to resist mold and mildew. That much mold & mildew could not be healthy, that's for sure.

It all depends. What color is this? Yes this does sound like a mold issue to me. If their are mushrooms growing out of it then yes it is a type of mold. I suggest that where you have a young child it would be best for you to take her to the doctors to have her checked out to make sure she has no mold spores in her lungs. Secondly if you can afford it, have a professional come in and look at it. A lot of companies will do this as a free estimate. In the mean time, place some bleach and water in a spray bottle, wear a mask to cover your mouth and nose, then spray bleach solution all over the area and throw anything out that might have been affected by it. Wear gloves when doing so. I am placeing a couple of links for you below to check out. On this last link there is another reciepe for mold for cleaning it. Check it out. I hope this is what you were looking for.

You have a combination of black mold and rotten sheetrock.
You can clean the mold using bleach.
the reason it keeps coming back is the mold is within the sheetrock and behind the walls.
The only way to permanently stop it from coming back is to tear down the walls and have the inside of the walls sprayed.
Black mold does cause allergies and a whole list of other ailments too numerous to name.
