That is not a word that I find myself using at all.
Young people today seem to use it quite a bit, but that is just an observation.. totally...thanks....

Like, so, totally.

This, I would venture, is a Californianism or at least an Americanism, which has permeated into youth culture in general.

Words like "totally" and "like" are inserted into speech as a form of tic. That is to say, whilst looking for a suitable adverb or adjective, "totally" fills in a mental gap. The unfortunate thing is that, once you get into the routine of saying "totally" (or indeed any other favourite word), it's - like - so - totally - hard to kick the habit.

Like, so, totally. Char!

I'm a farmer/rancher, you'd be surprised how many nipples I deal with in a day on machines and critters. I like to let nipples roll off the end of my tongue several times a day. RScott

probably a couple times a day. but never in the valley girl way. "totally." is not its own sentence.

I would say, "She was totally obliterated."

not just, "Totally." as a response to something.

Sometimes I catch myself saying it. My best friend is from Cali, and he says it in almost every sentence he speaks. Haha, it's actually kind of cute.

Probably way too often. I'm really too old to be saying it.
