The Senate bill, grandiosely and falsely dubbed the Renewable Fuels, Consumer Protection and Energy Efficiency Act of 2007, should come with a section prohibiting price gouging — by Congress. The legislation “could result in significantly higher prices for gasoline consumers,” according to Heritage Foundation researchers. “A review of S. 1419, including the just-completed section on tax changes, reveals that the bill could increase the price of regular unleaded gasoline from $3.14 per gallon (the early May national average) to $6.40 in 2016 — a 104 percent increase,” write Heritage Foundation researchers William W. Beach and Shanea Watkins.

“Gas consumers can expect to pay between $3.16 and $3.79 a gallon for gas in 2008 after adding in the estimated impact of the Senate energy bill. By 2016, all states can expect gas prices in excess of $6. As a result of S. 1419, consumers would spend an average of $1445 more per year on gasoline in 2016 than in 2008,” they write.

Oil companies are making about 8 cents a gallon on gas
Government about 60 cents on the gallon.

So who is really sticking it to the guys buying gas.

Now they want to raise it more?

Wondering why liberalism such bad idea.

Added thought:
When democrats want to raise the gas prices to 6 bucks a gallon. To me all democrats lost their right complain about the high price of gas FOREVER!

Does it matter? The cost of gas has going up 200% in the last 15 years. Do people drive less? No.

Everyone complains about the cost of gas, but on any given weekend the roads are packed full of people out burning gas for no real purpose other than entertainment. SUVs are trucks are still the best selling classes of cars in most parts of the US.

Trust me. When a teenager can afford enough gas to spend his weekend driving all over town with his friends then gas does NOT cost too much.

It's going to take gas going to $6/gallon (or more) before people start to seriously consider alternative fuels.

I think if gas is $6.40 a gallon in 2016, and your salary is double of today's you wouldn't feel it. Gas was $0.29 a gallon when I was in high school. But does that mean anything?

Also, by then there will probably be alternatives that will be cleaner and won't get us into wars that are very costly, so then if gas guzzlers want to keep driving their Hummers, they should pay for today's wars over oil that won't be paid for by then. Who else do you propose will pay for our current debt for Iraq when the GOP keeps giving all the tax breaks to the rich?
But hey I don't agree that all the burden should be on gas prices. They should find some way to pay for our governmnent expenses that will be fair. As yes, defense is also a gov't. expense. How about a tax on condoms? A tax on tobacco? Marijuana? Baby Formula? Any ideas of how to pay for Iraq?

Thank goodness I'm not an average citizen. I was smart, 3 years ago I bought a little scooter and it takes me everywhere I want to go and I get 100 miles to the gallon.

That $6 a gallon doesn't phase me one bit but I bet all of those Cadillac driving libs are going to cry "Bush did it" or "it's Bush's fault" or something like that. I remember the price of gas going up every year. I can remember you could buy a pack of cigarettes and a gallon of gas for the same price of 36 cents. Every year, no matter who was president the price of gas has gone up.

Consider the source more closely.

"The legislation “could result in significantly higher prices for gasoline consumers,” according to Heritage Foundation researchers."

Case closed. You've been exposed. Cite some really fair and balanced news source and then we'll talk.

Oh boy! Can America be happy now that libtards are in control????

Again they say one thing to get elected (move right) then after they get in they run to the far left.

And people fall for it all the time.

So the moral is, be careful what you wish for, you may get it. And we will get it. bend over America the libtards are going to give it to EVERYONE, even the poor they care so much about.
