I actually work at a Veterinary hospital I work reception now but when I worked in the Kennel where all the pets were kept its basically day to day is a lot of cleaning and walking dogs, the occasional bath and ear cleaning (which can be really gross)... there is some fun to it as well, the hospital I work at is big into making the client's pet feel loved and cared for we had to give each pet a 15 minute pet every day. It is awesome. Working with animals is very rewarding because after a while they come to know you and trust you and just be generally happy to see you. I love my job and working at a shelter although heart breaking I'm sure (I've known plenty of shelter workers) is rewarding as well you get to see the animals quality of life improve if they get the chance to be adopted out...

I have a friend who works at a shelter, and another who works at the local vet. You basicly clean out the cages, but they don't like it when you handle the animals, very often. But it is a very informative activity because you see what the other jobs are and do.

i'm a volunteer for the CT Humane Society- and prefer Emily reported, maximum shelters do no longer take in simple terms anybody. I had to be interviewed and grew to become into given a strict set of regulations for dealing with look after canines. yet all in all, this is a rewarding experiance. i'm not sure how "exciting" this is- collectively as this is constructive to work out the canines, this is actual depressing because of the fact lots of have PTS (placed to sleep) marked on their cages. the undertaking with the severe volume shelters like the humane societies accross united states of america, is they do no longer provide quite some time to man or woman canines. I endure in ideas relatively 2 doggies that have been euthanized for "nipping"- and there grew to become into no longer something i ought to do to end it. as quickly as a canine is on PTS, the canine could desire to be euthanized. this is a stressful element to work out.

No, but i nursed at a cat clinic/ boarding kennel. The most memorable day was...the two cranky burmese cats. They shared a cell. They could not be separated. Every time they did business in their tray we had to change it for a fresh one. These were NASTY cats. VERY scary. If we went anywhere near the cage they would launch at the door hissing, growling and snarling.. yes....snarling. Well one did a poo but we couldnt get in there to change it, so we left it for 5 mins. Shiiting ourselves! Our boss was a brilliant vet, and knew everything there was to know about cats. Love them to bits. Unfortunately she hated people. We were useless in her eyes. She was Very hard to get along with. And when she had the shiits, my god! you knew about it. She was actually scarier than the 20 of these cats put together. When we went back we discovered the other cat had done a poo on top of his bed. Now we were REALLY in trouble. We spent half an hour trying to change the trays, trying not to alert the boss for fear of her wrath...we couldnt get near...we had to bite the bullet and eventually tell her. sHe was absolutely ROPEABLE! Swearing at us, calling us morons and retards and slamming things around..oooohhh! Nasty! Well she finally stopped and got down to business. She opened the cage and went for the grab. (split second movement) the other cat jumped out at her mid action. She put one cat in the temp carrier. Stopped, glared at us and told us what useless f-wits we really were. She picked up the chain mail gloves and put them on. Covered them with HEAVY duty cloth gloves, grapped a stick with a noose on the end of it and proceeded to chase a VERY ANGRY cat around a small room. She FINALLY got him after a violent (cat) fight and put him in with the other. We changed their cell and she put them back. Under a stream of vile abuse...We copped it for the rest of the day. Now she knew these cats inside out. She knew they were nasty and impossible to touch, yet she still let 'apprentices' deal with it. Just watching how angry she was and all the 'protection'she put on confirmed this. Needless to say, she couldnt keep staff and went thru 9 in the 3 months i was there. I quit of course and went off to work in her 2 pet shops. I lasted 6 months. Amazingly she sent me a letter months later asking me to come back......I DONT FREAKIN THINK SO!!!!.................a memory id rather forget..
