Coming of age literature (not a genre).

The genres you list are works of fiction. They do not intend to advance the cause of artistic prose like literature does; rather, genre fiction borrows heavily from that which came before it. For example, every novel about vampires is a essentially stealing from Bram Stoker's Dracula. The Catcher in the Rye, a least for a moment, did something new, as literature, not generic.

The Catcher In The Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is categorized as Literature. It is one of the most banned books in America, but also one of the most notable books. It doesn't specifically fit into one genre like the ones you have listed above.
I would say it is realistic fiction. Though it may not happen to someone - to write a book while you are in a mental ward - it is a plausible story. But it is classified at literature.

Catcher is a coming of age fiction novel, although it seems as if it could be true because one could feel a strong emotional connection to Holden.

It's fiction, but could be placed in a number of sub categories of fiction. I think it depends on how you interpret the story as to what genre you put it in.
