I don't plan on having any kids for another five years (god willing) but i keep hearing that pre-natal vitamins have all these health benefits. how are they different from other vitamins and will it harm me to take them?

No harm whatsoever in taking them while not pregnant. They're just a multi vitamin with a little extra of certain things a woman needs....including iron since we lose a lot during our periods. They're pretty good at helping your hair, skin & nails too. I've had friends (who have children) that keep suggesting I take them to help with my nails....cause I finally kicked a horrid nail-biting habit & am trying to grow some nails but having a hard time with it.

I take prenatal vitamins for my iron levels. They have good doses that we need and they are gentle so they won't make your stomach upset like a lot of vitamins can do. So no harm will be done if you take them. Just make sure you tell your husband (if you're married) before hand. I freaked mine out when he saw the bottle in the kitchen. LOL

Prenatal Vitamins are actually good for you. Most OB GYN will recommend that if you are trying to get pregnant that you start taking them before. However, I would ask your doctor. Some have things you made not need. They offer so much for the body. Your hair and nails will grow, you will not lack things you may not get in your daily food sources.

I did find this art. that says its not safe so just so you have both sides I will include it. "The elevated levels of iron and zinc in these supplements are almost always beyond the upper safety limits for non-pregnant adults," she says. The pills are intended for women who need much more iron and zinc during pregnancy. They are sometimes helpful -- on doctor's orders -- "

No, there is no harm. As a matter of fact, if you are trying to conceive, have a vitamin deficiency, are breastfeeding, or just simply want a good multi-vitamin if you are a woman, then prenatal vitamins are one of the best vitamins for you. They contain more vitamins that your average multi-vitamin, and they do not contain any artificial dyes, sweeteners, or flavorings. They are also custom tailored for women's health.

you would do better to take a liquid vitamin supplement. It has been proven time and again that vitamin pills are not well absorbed and can even pass right through your system without dissolving. Liquid vitamins are 100% bioavailable, which means your body will actually use and benefit from them. All the vitamin pills available today are a huge scam, making megabucks for pharmaceutical companies and doing precious little for those that buy and take them.

I felt absolutely great when I was taking prenatal vitamins and I was pregnant!.I can't imagine how good they would work if you didn't have to share them with an unborn baby!!! Great idea! (If you have Health Insurance it might help with the cost if it's a prescription????

No. They'll just make your hair nails and face nice...

You ever see those vitamins that say hair nails and face and they are ridiculously expensive, they're just prenatal vitamins marked up 50x.

They are just multi-witamins with more of what a pregnant woman needs. Take them! they won't hurt anything.

Nope. It will make your hair and nails grow faster, though.
