I am thinking of ordering a betta from bettatalk.com, i would split a turquoise pair and only get the male, it's 50.00 $ for the pair and which in turn if i got the male im hopping it would go down to maybe 25 or 30? does that sound like too much or is it just me being cheap! oh and also on betta talk they say it takes about 380 $ to breed bettas is that true because if it is im not breeding them.

quality bettas come at a great price. the better the genes and colors, the higher the price. where is the betta being shipped from?
you should check out aquabid.com. the bettas are definitely quality and the colors are amazing. most are very cheap despite the good genes.

$50 is not too much for a good pair of show quality bettas. If I were you though, I would buy from a local breeder or a hobbyist breeder. Check out the International Betta Congress web site ( http://www.ibcbettas.org/ ) for some breeders and breeder home pages. Also be sure to check the show schedule to see if there will be any near you. There is always an auction at each show and I often see show quality bettas ( some even from the show and even some winners at that) sell for around $7-10 each, less for some females. Also, if you join the IBC, you can request a free pair of bettas from a breeder. No promises on the color and you still pay for the shipping, but you will get a very nice pair of bettas.

It doesn't take that much money to start breeding bettas, usually something more like $100-150 would easily get you started. A point though, don;t breed bettas expecting to make money off of the deal, just breed them for fun. It does take quite a bit of money to set up a large enough breeding facility to actually make any money from it.

If you have any questions about breeding or buy bettas, feel free to email me, I have been keeping and breeding bettas for over 20 years.

Are you INTENDING to breed? If so, you need higher-quality fish. Ones that have their histories charted. Like the pair you're talking about.

And for that idiot that says all they need is clean water: What the hell are you on?

That sounds waaaayyyy to expensive. Check out your local pet store or even the pet dept. at Wal-Mart. I've had Betta's before...the males are beautiful....but I would not pay $25 for one...they are like gold fish...they don't even need the air pump, just clean water.
