My car, for the last 6 months, has been sluggish while going uphill(any incline at all), pushing 3,000 RPMs just to get past 28 MPH. It is pretty much okay on a flat surface. The Service Engine Light has been on as well. I replaced the spark plugs and wires. What else could it be?

Had a similar problem with my 97 Saturn. The end result was my catalytic converter was plugged. Replaced that and the car ran perfect.

Sounds like an emission related problem, and you may have to have the EGR valve replaced. Why would you drive 6 months with the light on?

Take the car to Autozone and ask them to use their OBD-II code analyzer to scan the codes stored in your system. They can give you a better idea of what needs to be fixed. In fact, get the codes and have them translate them into english, and then come back and we'll try to help you out.

Next time, don't wait 6 months to do this.

Stop by an autozone store and have them read the codes for you. That way you will know what's wrong and they should be able to tell you what parts you need to fix the problem. Either that or take it to a Pontiac dealer and get it fixed. good luck.

You need to get the computer error code read out, but it may be an oxygen sensor code that indicates your engine is misfiring and producing a too rich or too lean air/fuel mixture.
